John Murray is a triathlete, endurance swimmer and cyclist
and trail/ultra runner
Five years ago I looked down and realised that I could no longer see my feet – in middle age and with a massive BMI and unable to walk more than 100m, I realised my life was at risk. I had lived for 10 years with a fatigue condition and was at risk from diabetes, heart attack, stroke etc. It was clear it was time for a change. In the intervening years I have been transformed physically and mentally and psychologically and spiritually through training my body and mind to achieve what back then seemed impossible.

I am not extraordinary or special – any one can do what I do and many do. A man I met recently who had lost 17 stone he said
‘Its a new life’ and it is.
As I transformed all aspects of my life from doing press-ups on the kitchen counters to doing endurance triathlons and running ultra-marathons, I became interested in the practice of and motivations for pushing the limits. I came to understand the nature of mental and physical limits and how to transcend them. The love of adventure, physical and mental, and sharing what I have learned and learning from others is what motivates me and drives this blog.
This was me!

This used to be me!
